Christmas Party

So a lovely day today spent with kids at the Canmore Golf Club christmas party. I started off going with the kids to take their pics with santa but then thought well why not just take some pics of everyone with santa as well as all the games etc.

The club were really appreciative of the photos being taken and well i just thought why not do them. Nothing better than to take great images of people enjoying christmas.

My kids were really happy with the day, and by taking the photos it meant i felt less bad about eating a lot of the buffet that came out. Its gonna be a chubbier start to the new year.

I hope all your christmas parties have been just as much fun and your all looking forward to the big day of presents, food, and drink.

Merry Christmas everyone.

A Capital Night in Harlem

So i had an amazing night working in Harlem Dunfermline again last night with Capital FM DJ Callum Gallacher on the decks for part of the night. It was really busy but everyone having lots of fun along with lots of drink.

Not much to say really other than an incredible night out and you should consider coming along.

Black Friday was a great night out

So Black Friday was spent sober for me in Harlem Dunfermline taking photos of the shenanigans in the club but what a brilliant night it was.

The atmosphere was incredible, the music was amazing, and the people were thoroughly enjoying themselves. Maybe one year i'll be able to have a wee drink with them but for now i'll enjoy capturing the moments of them all enjoying themselves.

If you looking for a great night out with some incredible club photos taken by yours truly then get yourself along to Harlem.

And to make it better i get to do it all over again tonight and on christmas eve.

Keep smiling people.

Progress for 2014

So progress has been made to sort myself moving into the new year and really building on my business and providing top quality portraits for everyone in fife and surrounding areas.

New logo and website with the help of a good friend who knows a little bit about all this stuff and then creating a pricing pack that i can send to potential clients by email or post.

Business card template created and new flyer is well on the way to being completed so basically I'm moving forward at an amazing pace to make sure I'm all set to start the new year in a big, big way.

I'd like to use this blog to thank all those who have supported me along the way and to say to all potential clients that i look forward to working with you in the future.

My Parents Move

So with advice from the docs to take some time out, and even while i was bunged with the cold, i spent some time with my parents helping them move into their new house.

I certainly didn't envy them with hanging around while there old home was gutted of all their possessions before having to wait around for the call to say they can get the keys to the new house they've been looking forward to for so long.

I spent the evening helping with movie stuff and building things up. I really enjoyed it today. I sometimes feel like i don't do enough with my folks and sometimes in life you realise how short life really is and why you should cherish every moment with family and friends.

Made me remember why i love photography so much as well. Capturing moments on a camera that the people who book me can look back on and remember that moment in time whether it be their wedding day or images of their kids moving from child to teenager to adult. I think photography gives something special to those who want it.

Anyway enough sentimental rubbish for one night. Hope everyone else had as good a day as me, well apart from having the cold.

Keep smiling :)

Studio Backgrounds - I Hate White

Ok so maybe the word Hate is a bit strong so the correct word would be bored. Yeah i'm bored with white backgrounds. And maybe not just white but black as well. The reason is anytime i see a lot of portrait photos in peoples homes they are usually done against white or black backgrounds.

I never understood white backgrounds for a start because most times, especially photos full length of toddlers, it looked they they were floating.

I've never seen a parent looking to take a phone photo ask their kid to stand against a white wall. They would usually take a photo within their living room scene or something like that.

This is why when i do any studio photography images i would rather use a nice colour or a textured background.

Currently these are the colour backgrounds i use for portrait sessions:

To give you an idea of using one of these backgrounds i'll show you the pink:

To me it gives a nicer feel to the image. Well ok maybe not pink for a boy but you get the idea.

As a background with a bit of texture i prefer the use of a Damask background which is a style used in some wallpapers. You may have seen some images i've done using this before but heres one to give an example:

Again a nice difference compared to bright plain white.

Think of all the plain photos you've seen before using white or black backgrounds and consider if this is really something you want as your wall art showing off your family members.

Sharon and kids

So just finished taking photos and editing images of Sharon and her two kids. I love taking family pics and being involved in that moment.

This shoot was quite a simple one. All Sharon wanted was a photo of her daughter in her school uniform (she wasn't impressed with the official school photo it seems), then some of all of them in smart clothes.

Rather tired now since I'm still working and running off only about 3 hours sleep so this is a very short blog but i wanted to share a photo with everyone reading.

Keep Smiling :)

Tired but happy

So last night was, as i expected, a bit of a night for tiring me right out. Absolutely loved every minute though.

What i love about being a photographer is the banter at every shoot i do. Ive never had a shoot yet where i haven't had a good time in the company of my clients. Last night was certainly no different.

First was the birthday party. A 21st for a lovely girl called Sophie. OK so maybe girl at that age is the wrong word to use but at my age anyone under 25 is still a boy or girl these days to me. The family were warm and took the time to include me in there conversations and laughs. It just makes being there such a pleasure.

The images taken were from 2 setups. The first was a studio setup for when people arrived and the second was taking photos of them enjoying the night in the main area. So with some nice portraits and then some lovely photos of them enjoying themselves (and also the fabulous looking bar staff who posed, sometimes without realising).

So after i got finished i had about an hour until the next job so it gave me time to edit a few pics, well actually more than a few thanks to my new iMac, before heading out to Harlem Nightclub for some time with Mario Falcone.

In the club i usually spend my nights moving around the areas taking photos of the clubbers enjoying the night. The start of the night was really no different but a large part of it involved take photos of Mario and the people attending during a meet and great. A very smooth enjoyable night. Mario showed how much he appreciates his fan base just by the way he was all night.

So with some great photos of the night i trundled home after a trip to asda for some food to keep me going, and did some editing before needing some sleep.

All in all a very successful night out :)

Busy Saturday Night Ahead

So my lunch is cooking while i prep all my kit for the long night ahead. For those who think the life of a photographer is easy peasy then think again. My batteries are all charging, while i check i have all the kit i need for tonight.

So heres the schedule. At 5 o'clock i go to Canmore Golf Club to take photos of a young ladies birthday involving a studio set up for meet and greats before taking some photos of them dancing the night away.

Then I'm off to Harlem Dunfermline to cover there big night with Mario Falcone from TOWIE as he meets the regulars and i photograph the happy memory for them all.

Its going to be a long night, a little bit hectic, but I'm totally looking forward to both events.

Will update you all tomorrow on how it goes.

Keep smiling everyone.
